A Typical Service
Singing:
“Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord” -Ephesians 5:19
Services begin at 10:30 a.m. with acapella singing of hymns, meaning without any instrument other than the instrument that the Lord gave each of us – our voice. When the Lord puts a particular hymn on your heart, then call it out and we will try to sing it. (Psalm 100:1-3)
Prayer:
“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;” -1 Timothy 2:1
As the song service comes to a close, around 11:00, we will stand and sing an introductory hymn. Afterward, the pastor will make a few comments to the congregation. He then introduces the service and offers prayer. Or he might ask another Elder or brother who has something on his mind from the Lord to open services with a few remarks, followed by prayer. You will witness Old Carroll pray multiple times throughout the service as it is a central aspect of biblical worship. (James 5:15-16)
Preaching the Gospel:
“And how shall they preach, except they be sent? As it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!” -Romans 10:15
After prayer one or more ministers will preach to the entire congregation. Pastors, Teachers, or Elders rely on the leadership of the Holy Spirit to guide them on what God would have them to preach each time we meet. Please be in prayer for them for they realize they can only truly preach the gospel when they are blessed by God. (1 Cor 15:1-4)
Conclusion of the Services:
“But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.” -Acts 8:12
To close services, the church doors will be published open for the reception of members, while we sing a closing hymn and shake hands. During this concluding hymn if one or more present desires to join Old Carroll Church then we would invite you to come forward and let our pastor know your feelings. New members are received on a profession of faith in Christ and then baptized by immersion. (Acts 16:14-15, 30-33)
